The modern university becomes a main institutional field of the productive process of modern knowledge, after the modern university system was set up. Under this situation, the literature entered this system as one discipline; therefore the literary education evidently affected the literary developing trends. As an important social system, modern university was influenced and disciplined the New Literature, so Shanghais modern universities were selected to probe the relationship between the modern university and the New Literature. Because of the new literary curriculum was a significant sign in the relationship, so the history process must be study carefully to generalize the relationship between the modern university and the New Literature. On one hand, Fudan University, China University, and Guanghua University were researched as three cases to outline the relationship between the modern university and the New Literature. One the other hand, the campus literary activities was also noticed when studded on the relationship. Therefore, the whole study outspreaded on three aspects: 1. the idea of different universities; 2. the literary educational activities; 3. the literary activities on campus. In the part of introduction, the object, the area, and the method of this study were raised up. In the chapter 1, the relationship between the modern university and the New Literature was generalized briefly. In the chapter 2, 3, 4, Fudan University, China University, and Guanghua University were described as case study. The remaining questions were brought forward in thepart of epilogue.
