【BACKGROUND】Alopecia areata(AA)effects anagen hair follicles resulting in non-scarring hair loss.Since its introduction, superficial cryotherapy has been used as one of the meaningful treatmentmodalities for Alopecia areata.Histopathology is characterized by an increased number of telogen follicles and presence of inflflammatory lymphocytic infifiltrate in the peribulbar region.Halo metasone cream 1g:0.5mg are the most popular drugs for the treatment of this disease. This review precisely outlines the etiologic and pathogenic mechanisms, clinical features, diagnosis and management of alopecia areata.【AIM】 To study the Therapeutic effect of cryotherapy on Alopecia areate with clinical characteristics among adults.【OBJECTIVE】To study the therapeutic efficacy and safety of superficial cryotherapy for treatment of AA.To determine the clinical features and outcome among the subjects with Alopecia aereta. To estimate the incidence of Alopecia aereta. To assess the associations related to regrowth among the subjects.【METHODS】In this study,a total of 21 patients having Alopecia areata were taken as a treatment group for superficial cryotherapy and were selected for prospective study and analysis in the Hospital of Dali University from April 2018 to June 2020.In 21 patients with multiple bilateral Alopecia areata patches on their scalp, superficial cryotherapy was performed on the left side, once per week.Prednicarbate 0.25% solution was applied twice a day to both the treated and the control sides, one freezing time last 30 sec totally accept 4to8 times.Reaction is red macule,no blister.Clinical improvement was estimated using the Severity of Alopecia Tool(SALT)score, along with the changes in terminal and vellus hair count and hair thickness analyzed by phototrichogram.Data analyses including Wilcoxon signed-rank test,Mann-Whitney test, and the calculation of ICC was performed by using IBM SPSS Statistics software ver.21.0.In calculating ICC,ICC with two-way model, consistency type,average-measures unit, and mixed effects were used.p<0.05 was accepted as significant.【RESULTS】After 4 to 6 months of treatment, mean terminal hair count on the left scalp was 1.6-fold increased(p=0.005),while mean terminal hair count on the right scalp showed no significant change(110.1% increase,p=0.285).Mean SALT score decrease on the left was 4-fold greater than that on the right(40.7% and 9.6%),without statistical significance(p=0.282).Mean vellus hair count and mean hair thickness did not show notable changes after superficial cryotherapy.Remarkable adverse event was not observed.【CONCLUSION】Superficial cryotherapy is an efficacious treatment modality with advantages of clarity and noninvasiveness. It can be considered as a meaningful therapeutic modality for Alopecia areata, especially when the disease status is limited to minimal to mild,or Conventional AA treatment is not applicable.
