In the framework of the Italian Biomonitoring Programme(PROBE),a cohort of about 500 adolescents aged 13-15 years living in urban(Rome)and rural(Viterbo)areas was enrolled to examine metals exposure.Blood specimens, obtained for our purposes by ANMI(National Association for Microcytemia)during annual screening in schools(2009-10),were analyzed for metals(As,Be,Cd,Co,Cr,Hg,Ir,Mn,Mo,Ni,Pb,Pd,Pt,Rh,Sb,Sn,Tl,U,V and W)by sector field inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry.Aims of this campaign were to assess reference values for Italian adolescents as a basis for risk evaluation deriving from urban/environmental exposure to metals, and to evaluate potential exposure to some specific neurotoxic metals. To improve the knowledge about the implication of the metal body burden in adolescents, within the CROME-LIFE project,an exposome approach has been, partially, applied on those HBM data. The implementation of the results of metals already collected with demographic, lifestyle factors, diet, hematological profile as well as georeferenced data and environmental particulate levels allows to explore potential associations inside the database and support a better integrated environmental-exposure-health impact assessment.
