The 2 nd Chinese National Arctic Research Expedition was held from July to September in 2003.From July 29 th to September 10 th,while the icebreaker XUELONG sailed in the western Arctic Ocean,the partial pressure of CO2 in surface sea (pCO2) was continually measured by using LI-COR 6262 CO2/H2O infrared analyzer.Good data has shown many meaningful results of our research.pCO2 was characterized according to different areas such as continental shelf,slope and abyssal plain.Also it’s quite different in Chukchi sea,which is almost continental shelf.Judging from different control mechanism,these areas can be divided into three parts,exchange area of the Arctic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean,marginal ice zone,and pack ice zone.
