Providing anonymous communications in mobile ad hoc networks is an effective countermeasure against malicious traffic analysis. Various anonymous routing schemes have been proposed for MANETs. However, most works failed to resist the global tracker, and always ignored the reliability of data delivery. In this paper, we propose a comprehensive anonymous communication protocol including anonymous routing based on identity-based encryption pseudonym and single-round onion routing, and secure checking of traffic forwarding based on hash chain, called ARSC, to improve privacy and achieve security of nodes and data in MANETs. ARSC could achieve strong route anonymity and improve reliability of packet delivery in the data transmission phase.
