An Approach to Tune the Polarization State of Light with Metastructures over a Broad Frequency Range

  Controlling the polarization state, the transmission direction and the phase of light within a confined space is an important issue in optics. When the surface plasmon is excited on metallic surface, the surrounding electromagnetic field will be modulated due to the irradiation of oscillating surface electric current. At the resonant frequency this effect is so significant that a thin layer of metallic structure can effectively tune the state of light. However, the underlying Lorentz resonance in metal is highly dispersive in nature, which limits its application to a specific narrow frequency range.
