@@ Anterior cervical decompression surgery has been established as a main surgical option in the treatment of cervical spondylotic myelopathy. In order to facilitate stripping, protect the spinal cord and nerves, its essential to ensure the retention of awareness during operation. The choice of anesthesia usually is cervical plexus block combined with local infiltration anesthesia, in which, the heart rate, blood pressure increase significantly due to incomplete analgesia occuring frequently. Remifentanil is an ultra-short acting μ-opioid receptor agonist, with the desirable characteristic of rapid onset/offset/titration action, making it widely used in clinical anesthesia practice.1 However, its feasibility in anterior cervical decompression analgesia remains to be explored. The aim of this paper is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of target-controlled remifentanil infusion combined with cervical plexus block for anterior cervical decompression surgery.
