The blue smimmer crab,Portunus pelagicus,is a commerically important portunid species widely distrubutes in many Indo-Pacific countries.Due to increasing market demands,there has been growing interest in aquaculture of the speices in the region.Compared to other farmed portunid crab species,P.pelagicus has shorter larval duration,relatively high larval survial rate,as well as faster growth rate during early juvenile stage.
