To date, over four hundred large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have been reported; yet only a tiny fraction of tlese studies focus on populations that are not predominantly European by descent.GWAS in ancestrally admixed populations are even rarer, both because of the limited number of cohorts and because of the challenges in the statistical aualysis.At the same time, admixed populations offer unique opportunities for identifying genetic variants that underlie phenotypic diversity between populations, as well as for elucidating the genetic architecture of complex traits.I will describe an ongoing GWAS in an African-European admixed population, tbr whidh ooth genotype-and ancestry-based association analyses are performed.This study illustrates the potential benefits of including genetically diverse populations.
