The fusion excitation functions were measured with high precision for 32S + 90,96Zr around the Coulomb barrier, and barrier distributions were extracted from the measured excitation functions.The sub-barrier cross sections for 32S + 96Zr are much larger compared with 32S + 90Zr.Semi-classical coupled-channels calculations including the low-lying quadruple and octupole vibrations are capable to describe sub-barrier enhancement only for 32S and 90Zr.The remaining disagreement for 32S and 96Zr comes from the positive Q-value intermediate neutron transfers in this system[1, 2].A comparison with the data on 40Ca + 90,96Zr[3, 4] shows that the two systems 32S, 40Ca + 90Zr display similar barrier distributions.While the barrier distributions of 32S, 40Ca +96Zr are both wider and flatter.The present results strongly indicate that neutron transfer plays an important role in the fusion processes.
