Violet-excitation enhancement of gas response of Ag-doped ZnO nanowires

  We describe the synthesis of Ag-doped ZnO nanowires by immersing in the AgNO3 solution and their applications to gas sensors.The three-dimensional network of ZnO nanowires coated by condensed Ag grains formed a highly porous structure with a high surface to volume ratio.Pure ZnO and Ag-doped ZnO nanowires thick film were tested as the gas sensing material by measuring changes in its electrical resistance upon exposure to alcohol with and without violet irritation.The measurement indicates that 6wt% Ag-doped ZnO nanowires sensors are significantly sensitive to the 100ppm alcohol.In addition,there is remarkably enhancement of sensitivity to alcohol with violet irritation.
