Mechanical hypersensitivity in response to nerve injury represents a major clinical problem, and mechanosensitive ion channels play an important role in pain transmission pathways.To get better insight in the mechanism by which neuronal cells can sense a mechanical stress and respond to it, a first mandatory step is to develop an integrated technology that enables applying controlled mechanical forces and investigating the consequences at the subcellular level.
