Thermoplastic Natural Rubber (TPNR) could be prepared by blending of natural rubber (NR) and thermoplastic materials. The material contains characteristic of NR and thermoplastic in particular the processing capability using thermoplastic equipment and technology. As the typical thermoplastic elastomer (TPE), the TPNR has been prepared through two different techniques: simple blend and dynamic vulcanization. In the first technique, the mixing of the polymer pairs without curative is performed to obtain the precise controllable co-continuous structure or dual continuous phases to reach the standard properties of the TPE material. It is noted that the continuity of the blends depends on the viscosity ratio or the blend proportion between NR and thermoplastic phases that can be estimated by using different empirical models. Also, the compatibility or interaction between different phases is the other important parameter that controls the continuity. In the second technique, the dynamic vulcanization technique, the blend of rubber and plastic is performed in the presence of the optimum curatives to gain the micron scale dispersion of vulcanized NR domains in the thermoplastic matrix.Apart from the unmodified NR, various modified NRs have been used to prepare the TPNR including epoxidized natural rubber (ENR), maleated natural rubber *(MNR) and graft copolymer of NR with various grafted polymer, such as natural rubber-gpoly(methyl methacrylate).
