In order to characterize the transient dynamics of steam turbine subsections, this paper presents a complete approach to develop an application model and the process parameter estimation for a general Westinghouse 300MW steam turbine system of our cooperation institution.Based on the structural and mechanism analysis of the system, the actual process data are transferred into the corresponding input/output data so as to identify the pressure-pressure and flow-power models for each steam turbine subsections such as the high, intermediate and low-pressure turbines. In particular, these sections are formulated using benchmark model as a prior knowledge to increase the modeling accuracy.System model and parameters of the corresponding model transfer functions are explicitly identified by using the Matlab System Identification Toolbox. This method provides advantages for improving the model description precision of the entire steam turbine system and provides better reference for the further improvement on the control system design. The effectiveness of the proposed approach and the generated models are verified by conducting the model validation on a set of actual field process data.
