This study was performed based on FAOSTAT and DAD-IS database systems of Food and Agriculture of United Nations in order to describe the number of horses,horses per 1000 persons,number of horse breeds,and the risk status of horse breeds in the world.In 2008,there were 58.7 million horses in the world,South America dominating (15 million) followed by Asia (13.8 million),North America (9.8 million),Latin America and Caribbean (8.7 million),Europe (6.3 million),Africa (4.5 million) and Oceania (0.41 million).
