Productivity of asparagus is determined, among others, by the growing conditions, the length of the harvest period, size and vigor of plants, plant photosynthesis efficiency as well as the ability of plants to partition the photosynthetic production into crowns.In a temperate climate like in Poland (52.4°N, 16.8°E), the first harvest is conducted two years after planting one-year-old crowns.It takes at least five to six years to carry out a precise evaluation of a new cultivar under such climatic conditions.
