Pre-term birth affects 10-12% of live births and it occurs when the cardiac muscle and vasculature is immature and still developing. We therefore hypothesized, that in response to pre-term birth, there will be structural remodelling in the myocardium and the aorta which enables the immature heart muscle and aorta to adapt to the hemodynamic transition at birth. Our aim was to determine how moderate pre-term birth affects the final structure of the myocardium and aorta.
