Thermotropic liquid crystals(LCs)are promising media which are cable of transducing presence of biomolecules(e.g.proteins,DNA and RNA,etc.)into optical signals in a label-free manner.1,2 The working principle of the LC-based biosensors often relies on the formation of self-assembled monolayers(SAMs),such as alkanethiols3 or organosilanes,4 for pre-orientation of LCs.
