A comprehensive thermodynamic model has been applied to construct real-solution stability diagrams for copper-ammonia-chlorine-water medium. The model is based on accurate knowledge of standard-state thermodynamic properties of all species and realistic activity coefficient model developed by Bromley.Since the diagrams were computed for the system involving concentrated solutions, so the resultant diagrams are particularly useful for predicting the behavior of copper hydrometallurgy in the presence of NH3 and Cl-.In addition to customary potential (E)-pH diagram, predominance areas for dissolved and solid species were calculated as well which concentrations of NH3, Cl-and copper ion were used as independent variables, making it possible to analyze effects of various compounds that promote or inhibit copper extraction.
