Spatial multi-resolution cluster detection method

  A novel multi-resolution cluster detection (MCD) method is proposed to identify clusters in space.Multi-scale test statistic on a single cell is derived based on likelihood ratio for Bernoulli sequence, Poisson sequence and Normal sequence.After controlling for multiple comparisons in space through the false discovery rate, the MCD method can identify the cluster regions with low percentage of false discovery.We show by simulation that the power of MCD method is larger (on average) than tests based on single scale statistics.The method is effective for discovering irregularly shaped clusters, and implementation of this method do not require heavy computation, making it suitable for cluster detection for lurge spatial data.
