The peasant commuters in the suburbs of Fujian and Taiwan, a special organization name for local business gangs in the Qing Dynasty, were never found in other parts of China. Due to the lack of literature, scholars have little to say about this. Based on the newly discovered genealogical data, this paper explores the business development process of Huang’s suburban merchants in Qing Dynasty and their ethnic characteristics. By analyzing pedigree records of Huang’s suburbs, it was found that the so-called ethnic group was not widely distributed within the family. With the kinship of their closest relatives as their core, they gradually expanded to their own clan, their clan, and their relatives, and further developed their relations with the same village, fellow countrymen, same counties, and Tongfu and Tongan provinces geographically linked. With its comparatively strong economic power, the suburban businessmen actively participated in various undertakings of local communities and local ethnic groups and enabled them, together with the gentry class, to become the two major forces in the Qing Dynasty to maintain stability and even control grassroots social organizations and ethnic organizations.
