Objective: To investigate the function of TPS preoperative plan and TPS postoperative quality of verification in 125I seeds brachytherapy treatment of the orbital tumors. Methods: Retrospective analysis the data of 66 cases of patients with orbital tumor treated with ~I seeds from 2005 to 2009.CT and/or MRI were performed in 66 patients preoperative.Using TPS system designed preplan in 43 cases who did the exams in Tongren Hospital and had digital image data, Prescribed dose is 140Gy, 23 cases of patients who had no digital image data, did not undergo TPS preplan.Arrange the 125I seeds 1cm intervals in parallel with each other intraoperative.CT and TPS postoperative quality of verification were performed in 66 patients postoperative. To obtain the actual dose received of tumor and organs surrounding tumor, such as the eye and optic nerve, and to calculate the DVH curve of target by the TPS system.CT and/or MRI examination has done for follow-up, after 3, 6, 12 and 24 months respectively. Results: 1070 125I seeds were implanted in 66 cases, an average of 16.21±7.3, units of activity 0.5-0.9 mCi, Half-life 59.6 days.In the 43 cases who did the TPS preplans , 34 cases of TPS postoperative quality of verification 4 were satisfactory, as well 9 cases were not satisfactory; 10 cases were satisfactory in no TPS preplans group, as well 13 cases were not satisfactory. The satisfaction rate of postoperative quality of verification in TPS preplans group and no TPS preplans group were 79.07% (34/43) and 43.47% (13/23), respectively.(x2=8.542 P=0.003), there was a significant difference.10 cases of patients lost, No imaging follow-up data.37 postoperative quality of verification were satisfaction in the other 56 patients, as well 19 postoperative quality of verification were not satisfaction.Local recurrence rate in the patients whose postoperative quality of verification were satisfaction were 0.00% (0/37) 、 6.25% (2/32) 、 1 3.63% (3/22) and 33.33% (3/9),respectively.And 5.26% (1/19)、 16.66% (3/18)、 30.77% (4/13)、 100.0% (6/6),respectively in the patients whose postoperative quality of verification were not satisfaction.Significant statistical difference was existed. Conclusions: TPS play an impotent value in 125I seeds brachytherapy of the orbital tumors.TPS preplan is a prerequisite for successful treatment.TPS postoperative quality of verification can better predict the clinical therapeutic effect and guide the program to determine further treatment.
