Direct visualization of morphological evolution remains extremely challenging despite its critical importance to understand the basic fundamentals behind the transition.Here we report on detailed observation of different fragmentation pathways of amphiphilic poly (2-vinyl pyridine)-b-poly (ethylene oxide) (P2VP26.4k-b-PEO5.9k) diblock copolymer cylindrical micelles in aqueous solution.Owing to the instability of cylindrical structure and the fluidity of micellar cores,the initial cylindrical micelles spontaneously undulate and transform into spherical micelles through distinct intermediate states,including undulated cylinders and pearl-necklace-like micelles with perfect sinusoidal wave throughout the length.
