Three-dimensional simulation of nozzle internal flow based on X-ray CT scan

  In modern Diesel engines,the pollutant emissions have a strong dependence on the fuel atomization in the engine cylinder and combustion quality,and the fuel flow condition inside a nozzle will affect fuel atomization directly.In the past 20 years,researches show that a nozzle inner structure has a significant influence on fuel flow situation in the nozzle.Employing CFD method,this study focuses on the influence of injector nozzle internal structure on the nozzle internal flow characteristics.Based on the X-ray CT scan in Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF),3D digital model of nozzle is acquired,with which the CFD models are established.The simulation results show that: the nozzle internal flow characteristics are influenced by the orifice inlet rounding radius.Increasing the orifice inlet rounding radius,the cavitation volume at the nozzle inlet will be reduced and the nozzle internal flow will be more stable,so that the axial velocity at nozzle outlet changes more gently.The bigger orifice inlet rounding radius will have bigger outlet pressure and velocity at its radial direction,and the location where the maximum pressure generates will be farther away from the orifice wall.Unevenness of the rounding radius along orifice azimuthal direction significantly affects the internal flow distribution of the nozzle and the outlet flow distribution.Thus,by improving the uniformity of the nozzle inlet rounding radius distribution,the fuel inside the nozzle orifice will flow more stably.
