Hydrogen bonding is one of the most important interactions and plays crucial roles in many biological processes and solution systems.Recently, the deliberate use of hydrogen bonds as a means of connecting molecular building blocks has been an intriguing approach in crystal design to produce functional materials with unique properties. In the present work, special effects of hydrogen bonds on the function of some typical materials, including polarity, nonlinear optical property, crystal growth behavior and crystal morphology are discussed in order to manifest the robust roles of hydrogen bonds in inorganic functional materials design.
