We undertook a cross-sectional study of high risk HIV-seronegative homosexual men in New York City to investigate whether natural resistance to HIV will be over-represented among individuals at prolonged risk, compared to shorter risk,of infection.Multiple linear regression analyses, restricted to 67 individuals aged 30-49 years, showed a negative association between HIV risk duration (years since first receptive anal intercourse,median=1 5) and CCR5 expression on CD4+ blood monocytes (p=0.01),as well as a similar negative association with CCR5 expression on CD4+ peripheral T cells (p=0.03).Circulating levels of MIP-1,MIP-1,and RANTES did not affect the regression estimates.
