The orientation of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium ([bmim]) cations at the air/liquid interface of the room temperature ionic liquid 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium hexafluorophosphate ([bmim][PF6]) was investigated by polarization- and configuration-dependent sum frequency generation vibrational spectroscopy (SFG-VS).
