  An efficient numerical method is developed for computing the band structures of two-dimensional photonic crystals which are honeycomb lattices of circular cylinders.Using the Dirichlet-to-Neumann(DtN)map of the unit cell which consists of three hexagons,the problem can be formulated as a linear eigenvalue problem for relatively small matrices,where the eigenvalue is a function of the Bloch wave vector and the frequency is a given parameter.
