Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has been proven to be a non-invasive, non-destructive and effective diagnostic modality. In the past few decades, 1H MRI has been the dominating MRI modality in the routine clinical scans. However, because of the background signals that arise from the abundance of 1H in human tissue, it is often difficult for 1H MRI to generate unambiguous images and discriminate tumour tissue from normal tissue.Since its first appearance in 1977, 19F MRI has been considered as a promising alternative because the 19F isotope has considerable advantages, e.g., zero 19F background in living body, high gyromagnetic ratio, favourable sensitivity and high natural abundance. Therefore, as a novel diagnosis modality, 19F MRI has great potential in selective imaging for the diagnosis of cancer diseases.
