Morphological studies of the reproductive systems of insects contribute to our knowledge of reproductive biology (Tsai and Perrier, 1996; Araújo et al., 2005, 2010; Freitas et al., 2010).Leafhoppers are one of the largest families of plant-feeding insects and feed by sucking the sap of vascular plants (Dietrich, 2005).However, studies on the morphology and fine structure of the reproductive system in Cicadellidae are relatively few (Gil-Fernandez and Black, 1965; Tsai and Perrier, 1996; Cheung, 1994, 1996; Tian et al., 2006).The present study describes the structure and ultrastructure of organs of the internal reproductive systems and spermatozoa in Cicadella viridis (Linnaeus) and Kolla paulula (Walker), contributing to our knowledge of their reproductive biology as well as providing information in systematic studies of this group.
