Objective:To evaluate the prognostic value of sociodemographic data,duration of disease,clinical and imaging findings on outcome of lumbar disc herniation treated by microendoscopic discectomy (MED).Methods:A prospective observational study of 198 consecutive patients (mean age of 37.6 years and range,24~62 years) undergoing single level primary lumbar MED was conducted.A objective rating system for patient selection for lumbar MED for the treatment for disc herniation is presented.Based on the findings within each of five categories (sociodemographic data,history of disease,symptom,neurologic signs,imaging Findings),numeric scores are derived.A maximum of 3 points is available in each category,for a total of 34 points.Clinical outcomes were evaluated by follow up examination.Comparison between results and predictive scores was made.
