Objective: To investigate the effects of nicotine on the ultrastructure, proliferation, apoptosis and protein expression in human umbilical cord mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs).Methods: Human umbilical cord MSCs treated with nicotine (0.5 mg/mL or 1.0 mg/mL) were observed using atomic force microscopy.Cell proliferation after 24, 48, or 72 h of exposure to nicotine (0.5 mg/ml, 1 mg/ml, or 1.5 mg/ml) was examined by MTT assay.
