The paper discusses results of design and development of the Sustainable Land Management Information System (SLM-IS) component of the Inception phase of the Central Asian Countries Initiative for Land Management (CACILM) Program.CACILM phase 1 has brought together Kazakhstan,the Kyrgyz Republic,Uzbekistan,Tajikistan and Turkmenistan supported by i) the national ministries of agriculture and environment and ii) the international donor community (GEFSec,ADB,UNCCD,GM,GIZ,UNDP) to work towards sustainable land management and land degradation.Four SLMI-IS National Support Implementation Units (NSIUs) and five National Secretariats (NSECs) from each of the CA countries were set up as the key governmental counterpart agencies.These institutions both provide and use the essential information,and discuss and share this across international and provincial boundaries.
