Contamination of natural water with heavy metal ions is a significant global issue.Due to its large specific surface area, high mechanical strength, chemical stability and so on, graphene (GN) could be used as an ideal adsorbent to remove heavy metals in the water.This paper gives an overview of recent literatures for graphene-containing composites in heavy metal ions removal in wastewater treatment.The adsorption capacity,adsorption mechanism, the factors affecting adsorption and recycling performance of graphene-based materials for heavy metal ions is introduced.Importantly, the adsorption properties of cement-graphene composites are also discussed.Compared with pure cement mortars, the adsorption capacity of graphene-cement nanocomposites for heavy metals increased.In addition, the removal percentage of heavy metals increased with the increase of solution pH at first and then decreased when pH value exceeds 7.
