Micropropagation technique,in fruit tree sector,is used commercialy since 1980 producing not only rootstocks but also ownrooted varieties of some species(kiwifruit, pear, small fruits etc). With this technique is easier to produce virus free and genetically uniform plants since we start with material from only one certified tree.We dont need the mother plants for the grafting material that is difficult to keep healthy specially in countries where the PPV is present everywhere and the economic cost is very high.An other problem which we often have with some apricot varieties is the partial grafting incompatibility with the available rootstocks.
