Background Heart transplantation (HTX) has become a standard therapy for children with endstage heart failure at the German Heart Institute Berlin.Methods Between May 1986 and September 2012,186 pediatric heart transplantations were performed,including 139 (74.7%) in patients with cardiomyopathy (CMP) and 47 (25.3%) in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD).The average age was 7.88 years (range,8 days to 18 years),and 39 (21%) were infants (<1 year).lmmunosuppressive therapy consisted ofcyclosporine,prednisone,and antithymocyte globulin.The intramyocardial electrogram (IMEG) was used for rejection monitoring after transplantation.
