  The protective mechanism of an anodic coating includes barrier effect and cathodic protection. However, no quantitative data has been reported on this subject to figure out the details. In the present work, finite element method was used to estimate the cathodic protection effect by simulating the potential and current distribution on the damaged cold sprayed Al-Zn composites coating. The results indicate that Al-Zn coating can provide a limiting cathodic protection for substrate, because it can only polarize very narrow zone to -0.85V (VS. SCE). The rest area still has a very high residual corrosion rate. Computational methods can be used for predicting the corrosion rate of Al-Zn coating, the simulation results was validated by the weight loss experiment results. This method can be used to evaluate the corrosion behavior of substrate with anodic coating. Further work must be done to improve the accuracy of the method by choosing the polarization curve correctly.
