Apple blotch (Alternaria alternate apple pathotype) is one of the more devastating diseases in eastern Asia that causes early defoliation in apple (Malus×domestica Borkh.).The first step in breeding resistant apple cultivars and the most effective strategy in managing the disease is to screen apple germplasm for resistance and susceptibility to the disease.A reliable molecular marker or markers would greatly enhance the process, and accelerate the process of selection.
