Boryl ligands in transition metal boryl complexes play important roles in many catalytic processes including hydroboration,diboration,and other boron addition reactions to unsaturated organics as well as borylation of carbon-halogen and carbon-hydrogen bonds in arenes and alkanes.In this Talk,we discuss selected aspects of metal boryl(M-BR2)chemistry pertaining to the role of boryl ligands in various catalytic processes.The exceptionally strong sigma-donor properties of boryl ligands and their related nucleophilic/electrophilic behaviors will be highlighted.
