Microwave technology has been widely used for extraction of active components from Chinese herbal medicines such as microwave assisted extraction (MAE) and solvent-free microwave extraction (SFME) for its characteristics of strong penetration, fast and even heating. However, the off-line sample preparation followed by the subsequent separation and analysis induces loss of volatile components during the collection of extract, especially for those with low boiling points.HS is a powerful tool for the volatile components.Due to heating by thermal conductivity, the traditional HS method for solid sample endures uneven heating, time-consuming and requires small and even size of solid particles.
