The peanut genome project is an ambitious endeavor to not only sequence the tetraploid peanut, but the diploid progenitor genomes as well, and to create sequence-based, high resolution genetic maps.The tetraploid genome is ~3.4 billion base pairs, roughly equivalent to the human genome.
