Objective: The peri-menopause women are the persons of the high risk of the pelvic organ prolapse (POP) and stress urinary incontinence (SUI) diseases.The present study correlated the expression of VIP in the vaginal epithelium of 70 peri-menopause women with the severity of POP with or without SUI.Methods: A total of 70 biopsy specimens from the anterior vaginal epithelium were obtained from the post-menopause patients.According to the POP quantify staging system, 60 of these patients were subdivided into 8 groups and 10 of these patients diagnosed without POP and SUI in non-gynecological benign diseases were included as the control group.Immunohistochemical labeling for the vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP) and Hematoxylin and Eosin staining were performed and the VIP innervation was compared between the 9 groups of the patients.
