Hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) has developed rapidly in the past decade because of its excellent compatibility with mass spectrometry (MS) and the straightforward separation of polar/hydrophilic compounds. One of the vital criteria in HILIC separations is its requirement of a very hydrophilic stationary phase, which is strongly depended on the phase surface chemistry such as the type of functional group and its density.Yet, the most used commercial HILIC columns are prepared with bare silica or bonded phases with amide, sulfobetaine, diol, and amino functional group.
