Ancient architectures are important part of cultural resources and the best carrier of cultural heritage. So record, monitoring, finishing and using these architectures left over from predecessors are a key link of ancient architecture protection and research.3D laser scanning technology with fast, accurate and non-contact unique advantages of the complex surface measurement, plays a significant role in the application of ancient building protection.Historic monuments of Dengfeng in “The Centre of Heaven and Earth” have been included in UNESCOs World Cultural Heritage List.“The Dengfeng Observatory” is taken as an example of ancient building protection, which is one of eight places of these Historic monuments.Based on field investigation and collection of related data of the study area,we explored the application of 3D laser scanning technology in ancient architectures protection and assisted by remote sensing and GIS technology. On the information retained of ancient architectures,three-dimensional model of “The Dengfeng Observatory” was built, and information about location, distribution pattern, the surrounding landscape and environment of it was restored completely. In terms of disease monitoring on ancient architecture,we analyzed relationship between various disease-prone sites and time, environment, texture of the architecture from natural forces destruction and man made factors affecting, found the key areas and parts needing to protect and repair. Moreover, the disease trend of “The Dengfeng Observatory” was further decrypted specifically.
