Aryne is reactive intermediate in which a π bond is formed by overlapping two σ-orbitals on the ortho position of an arene. With the development of 2-(trimethylsilyl)aryl triflates as a modem precursor that can generate arynes under much milder conditions, arynes have evolved from simple reactive intermediate in the textbook to a useful reactant in synthetic chemistry. This talk will briefly summarize our recently developed methods that exploit aryne chemistry to constructing heterocycles.Progress on other directions of aryne chemistry will also be mentioned.
