Graphene-based sheets typically have very high aspect ratio, making them soft and prone to deformation.Mechanical stresses these flexible sheets experienced during common material processing can readily produce features like folding, wrinkling (wrinkled paper-like structure with a largely plate-like contour) and crumpling (paper ball-like structure with nearly spherical contour). In this talk, I will address the conformation-properties relationship of bulk graphene materials [1-5], focusing on graphene oxide and its reduced graphene product.Strategies for controlling the conformation/morphology of the sheets at the two extremes, namely flat and crumpled states will be discussed.Next I will discuss conformation-dependent properties of bulk graphene materials, and how the conformation impacts their applications in batteries, ultracapacitors and nanofluidic [6]devices.
