Huntingtons disease (HD) is a familial neurodegenerative disorder caused by an aberrant expansion of polyglutamine in the N-terminal region of huntingtin (Htt) and is characterized by restricted neurodegeneration and presence of misfolded huntingtin aggregates in neurons. There is currently no effective therapy to prevent or to delay disease progression.Although the mechanism by which the mutant Htt (mHtt) causes neuronal degeneration remains unclear, impairment of ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS) and oxidative stress have been proved to play important roles in the pathogenesis of HD.
