Background: Geobacter sulfurreducens can transfer electrons to extracellular electron acceptors through its pilus[1-3].The G.sulfurreducens pilus, composed of thousands copies of monomers has been reported to have metallic-like conductivity[4-5].The structure of G.sulfurreducens pilus and the mechanism for electron transfer in Geobacter still remain unknown[3-6].Constructing the detailed structure of pilus remains a challenge due to the insolubility of monomers, surface appendages and the heterogeneity of assembly[5-8].
