  A new type of flat-bottom hydrocyclone was introduced in the closed-circuit grinding process in order to improve the classification efficiency.The RSM turbulent flow model was used in the numerical simulation of the flow field in the flat-bottom hydrocyclone,and the simulation results showed that the circulating bed flow formed in the bottom section was helpful for coarse particles to discharge out the underflow (Figure 1),while the fine particles were easy to be drawn into the uprising flow.Both the traditional hydrocyclone and the flat-bottom hydrocyclone were fabricated and compared in the grinding process experiments.Experimental results verified that more coarse particles were separated into the underflow and more fine particles were transferred into the overflow by the flat-bottom hydrocyclone.The quantity efficiency and comprehensive classification efficiency could be improved more than 10% with the flat-bottom hydrocyclone.
