We discuss some recent developments in the method of fundamental solutions(MFS)such as the satisfactory distribution of the collocation and source points and the appropriate location of the sources. We also describe the development of efficient fast Fourier transform algorithms for the solution of problems in domains possessing radial symmetry. We finally describe some applications of the MFS,in particular,to inverse geometric problems along with some implementational issues arising in such problems.Areas of future research are also highlighted.
